While a wood striker usually generates the best sound on a friction call, when it gets wet...in rainy or high-humidity field conditions...it becomes a useless piece of wet wood.  This striker has a waterproof tip, so it works equally well, wet or dry.  I carry at least one waterproof striker like this in my bag of turkey hunting tricks at all times.
