Anderson's career started in the 1960's, making a name for
himself with the western art theme as well as the popular contemporary style widely
preferred by society's culture at that time.
Today, Larry's true passion for the beauty of nature and outdoor art is
exclusively unleashed through his brush strokes of the world's wildlife. Broadening
this spirit, his own art gallery and custom framing shop offers yet another avenue
of expression.
Anderson's classrooms have been the timbers and lakes from Canada to Cuba rather than the
traditional methods of study. His fish and wildlife scenes are conceived from events
observed during countless hours spent afield. Often giving as much
attention to backgrounds as the subject, Larry paints wildlife as it should be,
existing in harmony with its surroundings. Whether they are found in the sharp
detail of his pen and ink drawings, or in the soft impressions of his oils, the
settings for his creations are places Larry has seen.
"Sometimes
when I feel a bass tug my line,
or see a doe on a snowy hillside,
I often forget I am fishing or hunting
as I wonder how to work the scene out on canvas" reflects Larry. |
Aside
from national art shows, gallery open houses and one man shows, Larry has recently
focused his work towards the limited-edition print and magazine market, releasing
well over 100 different reproductions.
Larry's presence is also in other arenas:
- His art has appeared
internationally in and on covers of numerous outdoor magazines and books.
- He holds the position
of staff artist or staff illustrator for many publications.
- Larry freelances for
over a dozen other national sporting magazines.
- The Larry Anderson
Collection extends his art on calendars, note cards, coffee cups and has his own line of
T-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets.
- He continues to be in
demand as a commission artist designing belt buckles, decorator wood plaques and special
limited-edition prints.
- He recently completed
65 color pieces for the State of Arkansas for a fish identification book.
- Larry does art work
for outdoor manufacturers such as Lowrance Electronics, Skeeter Boats, Walker Downriggers,
Coleman, Pacific-Atlantic Products, Kikkoman, Off Shore Tackle, and American Animal Alert.
- An ardent supporter
of conservation, he is well known in wildlife art fund raising for organizations
such as Ducks Unlimited, Gulf Coast Conservation Association, lzaak Walton, Pheasants
Forever, National Wild Turkey Federation, Texas Black Bass Unlimited, Mid-Iowa
Bassmasters, and numerous fishing organizations.
Understandably,
some of his work days last 20 hours limiting
his time for hunting and fishing. His love for painting and the outdoors brings
balance.
Such
is the lasting imprint of a special kind of sporting artist whose work captures the mood
and feeling of one who has been there... and yearns to return. It's easy to
understand why Anderson is one of the premier wildlife artists today.
